I am getting married. What does numerology say about taking on my husband's name?.

Will it affect me in some way?

When a woman gets married and is comfortable taking on her husband's name, there is a very good chance the name change will not only help strengthen the relationship, but it will also have a beneficial impact on the woman. On one hand, she obviously sacrifices a part of herself by dropping her last name, but on the other hand, she receives certain "energies" from her husband and her husband's ancestors (see Ancestral Influences) that more than make up for that.

Underlying all logic and spiritual understandings, there is one truth we all feel in our hearts: the magic of this creation. Let's just blame this outrageous magic for the fact that somehow, a name given at birth ALWAYS perfectly fits the person named, and that same magic also causes a name taken on in love and commitment, to be extremely suitable and beneficial to the person named - certainly far beyond the limits of coincidence. This is magic!

This does not mean the love and commitment will last. Statistics show that a large percentage won't. However, that does not mean the love at the time the commitment is made, is any less true or real. Nor does it mean the marriage, or the resulting name change, was a mistake. How can it be a mistake when the love was real? Our mistake is that we attach too much value to our expectations.

As a numerologist, I make a distinction between "organic" name changes, and "artificial" name changes.

Organic name changes are the result of certain events or happenings that are natural and part of a healthy process of evolution for the individual. Such as a marriage. Or an aspiring musician or actor, who is told by his or her agent that the artist's current last name will be an obstacle to success (think Bernie Hackenburgermeister or John Delpoopooh) and should change the name, that name change is a natural next step in the artist's life, and is therefore organic. An organic name change can even be the result of a person's realization - at some mature age - that the current name doesn't fit, is ugly, reflects the kind of person the individual can't even relate to, or is connected to a hated parent. There can be many reasons to change one's name. All of which can be considered organic and may well be beneficial to the individual.

Artificial name changes, however, are names designed in the (almost always) futile hope to add or remove certain attributes without going through the normal process of learning, overcoming obstacles, and so forth. Nothing is more devastating to an individual than meeting a "numerologist" who tells you that you need an 8 in your core numbers in order to become rich and famous. Or that you need a 5 to overcome your shyness.
If a numerologist - or anyone else for that matter - tells you that you need to change your name in order to become a happier, healthier, or wealthier, human being, that person is either criminally incompetent or a con man (or con woman).

 There is a big difference between an individual, who feels the need to change his or her name, and a name change meant to be a shortcut to a happier and more successful life. There are no shortcuts. And looking for one is like throwing a monkey wrench into the natural evolution of your life's path.
